Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliners: Review & Swatches

Rimmel recently released a new range of ScandalEyes pencil eyeliners. They've been getting great reviews and come in some colours cheaper brands generally shy away from, so I was excited to check them out.

So excited I somehow ended up with all 15 shades.

L-R: Black, Sparkling Black, Brown, Taupe, Nude, Deep Blue, Turquoise, Light Blue, Green, Silver, Golden, Bronze, Purple, Bright Blue, Orange. Swatched once.

After running under a tap for 30 seconds.

After a LOT of scrubbing.

I think the pictures pretty much speak for themselves. These are easily the best drugstore eyeliners I've ever used. In terms of pigmentation and staying power they're just as good as NARS or Urban Decay, previously my favourite brands for pencil eyeliners.

Pros:

The colours are fantastic. It's so good to see a cheap brand make a nude and a taupe as well as some bold colours like orange.

The texture is soooo creamy. These glide on like butter, are a dream to blend/smudge and won't ever pull and tug at your eyelids.

Amazing pigmentation. My pictures all show just one swipe with the pencils!

Completely waterproof.

Once set, they won't budge. I scrubbed my arm really, really hard trying to get them to smudge or flake and they weren't going anywhere.

The price. At under $10 these are a steal!

Cons:

They're verging on being a little too creamy. You have to be careful or risk them breaking/getting smushed.

They have to sharpened. Given the texture that does result in quite a bit of wastage. Putting them in the fridge/freezer beforehand helps, but a twist up function would have been wonderful.
The shades Brown and Bronze are almost identical, but that's only a con if you go nuts like me and buy them all.

L-R: NARS Rue Bonaparte and Rimmel Nude.

The colour I was most excited about was Nude, as it's extremely hard to find a cheap nude eyeliner. I use NARS Rue Bonaparte on my waterline most days, and as you can see this is great dupe. It's just a little darker/warmer, but on the eyes you can't tell the difference.

Purple on upper lid, Taupe on lower lid, Black and Nude on waterline.

Golden on upper lid, Green on lower lid, Black and Nude on waterline.

I thought today would be a great day to truly test out the wear time given the heat, so I did two different looks, one on each eye (don't worry, I didn't leave the house). The pictures were taken about 11 hours after I applied my make-up. Even with the air conditioning on I was sweating like I was in a sauna all day long, but my eyeliner didn't smudge at all. Even the colour on my waterline was mostly intact, which is unprecedented.

I'm incredibly impressed with the ScandalEyes eyeliners. With these around I can't see myself shelling out the big bucks for high end brands pencil eyeliners anymore.

Rimmel ScandalEyes Eyeliners retail for $9.95 and are available at Priceline, Chemist Warehouse and all the major department stores.

Have you tried any of the ScandalEyes eyeliners yet? Thoughts?

    1. I had to try two Priceline's before I found one with the full range. They're all online though. The nude one must be the favourite, it was almost sold out at every store I went to too.

    1. I think these have just come out in the US actually, I've seen them on a few American blogs in the past few days. If not there's always Ebay ;)

    1. Nude eyeliner is tricky. I find white eyeliner too stark for me but it definitely suits some people better than nude shades. The taupe is amazing, especially on the lower lash line.

  7. Woah, you picked up the whole collection! Amazing :) Good to see Nude is a pretty good dupe of the NARS one, though I don't think it suits me all that much. I love the look of Taupe and the purple :)

    1. I couldn't resist :) That's a shame about the nude shade. I think nude eyeliner is a bit of an acquired taste. The taupe is definitely a must have!

    1. You're so sweet :) Glad to be back!

So far my personal favourites are taupe, nude, green, light blue and silver, but of all of them I think taupe is the standout. Oh, and the black is a great replacement for UD Zero.

  10. Great review and great job at getting all of them. I'm after the bright blue (how awesome does it look) and only just managed to get the nude (after looking in so so many stores).

  11. Wow I love the colors! Sadly we don't get Rimmel here in the Caribbean, so I'll have to wait until I visit the UK again. Hopefully they arent all gone by then :(. It also looks like you have a far more extensive range in Australia, I've been searching online for the golden, sparkling black and deep blue ... but I think they're only available down under :( and Priceline doesn't do international orders. Life is so unfair :((
