Every year Sephora releases a few amazing holiday sets. Now, I have to admit I'm one of those rare Aussie beauty lovers who isn't dying for Sephora to come to our shores. Let's face it, the prices would be so inflated that it would probably still be cheaper to use the US online store and pay for parcel forwarding. However the Sephora holiday sets are one thing I always hate missing out on.
This year I was lucky enough to be given two for Christmas, Super Stars, which I'll review today, and In The Glow (review coming soon). Unfortunately both these sets are sold out, but as they're made up of products that are all available to buy individually I thought they were still worth posting about.
The Super Stars Beauty Essentials set contains 10 of Sephora's most popular products. There are 5 full size products and 5 mini's.
Sephora Baked Eyeshadow Trio in Sunset (full size)
I was pleasantly surprised by this product. The colours are nice (I really like the warm brown) and the pigmentation is great for a baked formula.
NARS Orgasm Blush (full size)
I have a ton of NARS blushes, but Orgasm is one I've always resisted adding to my collection. I think often the hype actually puts me off when it comes to these cult favourites, like I think the actual product is bound to be a let down. Orgasm didn't disappoint. It's very pretty and a lot more wearable than I though it would be on my complexion. I'm glad to finally have it.
MUFE HD Powder (mini)
I'm a big fan of MUFE's HD powder. There's a lot of cheaper alternatives, from MAC to Australis, but this particular powder is so finely milled that it really makes skin look airbrushed. The mini size is tiny but that makes it perfect for throwing in my bag.
Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer (mini)
I've been wanting to try this for at least a year. After using it for the past week and I can certainly see why people like it. It's incredibly lightweight and fast-absorbing but it leaves skin looking and feeling so smooth and velvety. It definitely helps to even out skintone and makes make-up last longer. I love that it has SPF 15. I'm not sure if I'll buy a full size bottle when I'm done with this as primer is one thing I tend to scrimp on, but if I do decide to splurge this is at the top of my list.
Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Dolly (full size)
Another product I've been interested in for a while. This is a plumping lipgloss, so it has a tingling effect. The last time I tried a plumping lipgloss (many, many years ago) it burned my lips, so I was a bit nervous about trying this. Thankfully it seems like plumping lip products are a lot less harsh these days. The sensation this one gives is similar to when a really strong mint touches your lips, it's mostly just cooling and kind of refreshing. I didn't notice my lips getting any poutier, but the texture of the gloss is lovely, creamy and non-sticky. The 'muted plum' colour is very sheer making it a great MLBB shade.
Kate Somerville Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment (mini)
I've only used this once, but so far I like it a lot. Despite the gritty feel this is actually an enzyme exfoliator. My skin felt fantastic and looked pretty good after I washed it off. This get's amazing reviews so I can't wait to see if continued use makes any real differences to my skin. The herb scent is nice and fresh but may not be to everyone's taste.
Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil (mini)
I've only ever used Argan oil products made for use on hair, but this product is pure Argan oil and can be used on the face and body as well. It's a very lightweight, moisturising oil and so far it hasn't made me break out. Once I'm done with this I'll probably pick up a larger bottle of Argan oil, though I think I can find a cheaper brand.
Benefit They're Real Mascara (full size)
I've been hearing about this mascara a lot since it was released. It seems to get pretty mixed reviews and I can see why. On the one hand it makes my lashes extra long, holds a curl really well and doesn't smudge or flake. On the other hand it doesn't separate lashes well so if you do 2-3 coats 'spider lashes' become a real issue. It's a good mascara in many ways and it does give a pretty dramatic look, but I still prefer my Maybelline cheapies.
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black (full size)
You can never have too many black eyeliners! I like this a lot, the pigmentation is intense and it's easy to get a good line with one swipe. I have to say my NARS Stylo is still number one, but this is definitely a great back-up.
I'm not a huge perfume fan. Some scents cause quite nasty headaches and honestly, many just smell like nasty chemicals to me, so I always need to give samples a good work-out before buying a bottle. Luckily this scent doesn't bother me at all. I have no talent for describing scents so I'll just it's fresh, sexy and feminine. A new favourite.
L-R: Sephora Baked Eyeshadow Trio in Sunset, NARS Orgasm blush, Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Dolly, Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black.
I'm thrilled with Super Stars. It's been a great way to try a bunch of things that have been on my radar for a while, and I like and will use every single one of them. Sephora did an excellent job choosing the products as I think just about everyone would be happy with the contents of this set. Super Stars retailed for $75 USD and contains $186 USD worth of product so these sets are a really great deal.
