L'Oreal Blinged & Brilliant and Primped & Precious Infallible Eyeshadows: Review & Swatches

L'Oreal recently released two new limited-edition Infallible eyeshadows in the US as part of the Diamond Holiday collection.

The limited edition Infallibles I own are my favourites, so I always take notice when a new collection is released.

Primped & Precious is a metallic asphalt grey.

Blinged & Brilliant is a pale peach, basically a lighter version of permanent shade Amber Rush.

L-R: Primped & Precious, Flashback Silver

Unfortunately my swatches barely show the difference, but compared to Primped & Precious permanent shade Flashback Silver is quite a bit paler. Primped & Precious also has none of the purplish tones of Flashback Silver.

Amber Rush is darker and leans more towards copper than Blinged & Brilliant.
I'm torn about both these eyeshadows. The colours are great basics and the formula is smooth, pigmented and long-lasting (as usual). What lets both shades down is the finish. All the Infallible eyeshadows are somewhat frosty, but these two are the worst offenders of those I've tried. Now I don't mind high frost finishes, but personally I think they really only work with complex colours. Primped & Precious and Blinged & Brilliant aren't complex, and I think in this case the super frosty finish makes them vulnerable to looking like cakey, low quality eyeshadows.

With a light hand these are wearable, and pairing them with satin or matte shadows tones down the frostiness a lot, but these aren't unique colours at all so I don't feel they're worth the effort. I'll probably still get a bit of use out of Primped & Precious as it's a good addition to a smokey eye and I can live with the finish at night. If it had a subtler sheen Blinged & Brilliant would be such a pretty all over lid colour but on me it's just not flattering worn that way.

Overall these were a disappointment, the first real disappointment I've had with the Infallible range. I don't know if L'Oreal is leaving the interesting colours to Armani or if they're just lacking inspiration, but a few new shades in the vein of Cosmic Black and Emerald Lame would certainly be welcomed.

I purchased these on Ebay for around $12 each.

Have you tried either of these shades? Any tips for pulling off wearing super frosty eyeshadow?

  2. I know the feeling of the over frosty finish. It just makes the eye shadow look over the top on me :(

  4. What a shame because the shades are lovely in the swatches. Frosty shadows are a pet hate of mine because they end up looking tacky and *cough* somewhat aging on me...
