I popped into Priceline yesterday to complete my collection of Australis's new glitter polishes, and while I was there I had a look at Maybelline's new Color Show nail polish range. I was pretty meh about the whole thing (much more on trend than Maybelline's usual nail polish offerings, but nothing I haven't seen a million times already) until I spotted this glittering gem.
Terrible photos as usual, click here and here for much better pics. One day I'll have nice nails. One day...
Twilight Rays has a black creme base with big golden flakies. In some lights the gold takes on a greenish tinge, giving the polish an olive feel. It's just beautiful. The formula is quite thin, you definitely need 2-3 coats for an opaque finish, but other than that it's easy to work with.
L-R: Twilight Rays and OPI Live & Let Die
In store I had thought it might be a dupe for Live & Let Die, but the flakie chunks in Twilight Rays are much larger, and obviously the base colours are different. Still, if you're after a bargain it might be similar enough to the OPI polish to suffice.
The Australis polish, Glitter Strikes Back, is great. You can get a ton of glitter with just one coat (I did two) and I love the colour combination (gold, orange, purple and hot pink). The formula is a little on the thick side but I didn't find it hard to work with.
Maybelline Color Show nail polish retails for $5.95. Australis Glitter Strikes Back retails for $7.95.
Have you tried any of Maybelline's Color Show polishes yet? What are you wearing on your nails today?
